4.16

述曰。身子不忍見佛涅槃。故先入滅。而涅槃疏引大經則云。身子見佛涅槃不憂。常住不喜。是知開顯之義。不同附小之文。

I comment: Śāriputra, unable to bear seeing the Buddha's nirvāṇa, entered extinction beforehand; yet the Nirvāṇa Commentary cites the Great Sutra saying that Śāriputra, seeing the Buddha's nirvāṇa, was not sorrowful, and seeing his permanent abiding, was not joyful. From this we know that the doctrine of opening and revealing is not the same as texts attached to the Hīnayāna.
