In the fourteenth year, Great Master Sengqie of Sizhou suddenly manifested his form in the forbidden palace and said to the Emperor: 'The prefect has ordered Puguangwang Monastery to provide wealth to supply the riders of the ten postal stations; may this corvée labor be exempted.' The Emperor immediately sent an envoy to transmit an edict granting colorful silks, gold, and a water pitcher, ordering that his true likeness be painted and brought into the palace for offerings. In the fifth month, the Emperor passed away and the Crown Prince ascended the throne. An imperial decree ordered that from then on, no one was permitted to establish monasteries or shrines or request the ordination of monks and nuns.
