東坡曰。觀退之與孟簡書往復。云云。則知退之喜大顛。如喜文暢澄觀。而世人妄撰退之與顛書。其詞凡鄙。有一士人題其末。云歐陽謂此文非退之莫能及此。又誣永叔也。近世所傳退之別傳。深詆退之。又作永叔跋云。使退之復生不能自解免。吾友吳源明云。徐君平見介甫不喜退之。故作此文耳。

Dongpo said: "When one observes Tuizhi's correspondence with Meng Jian, and so on, one knows that Tuizhi took pleasure in Dadian just as he did in Wenchang and Chengguan. Yet people in the world have fabricated letters between Tuizhi and [Da]dian, whose wording is crude and vulgar. There was a scholar who inscribed at their end, saying: 'Ouyang [Xiu] stated that unless it were Tuizhi, none could reach this [level of style].' This also slanders Yingshu (Ouyang Xiu). The *Alternative Biography of Tuizhi* circulated in recent times deeply vilifies Tuizhi, and also fabricates an afterword by Yingshu, saying: 'Even if Tuizhi were reborn, he could not exonerate himself.' My friend Wu Yuanming said: 'Xu Junping saw that Jiefu (Wang Anshi) did not like Tuizhi, and therefore wrote this text.'"
