Jin Taizu's surname was Wanyan, and his personal name was Aguda. He was the eldest son of Grand Preceptor Yangge. His state's title was Jurchen. In the sixteenth year he declared himself emperor and changed the state's title to Jin, establishing his capital at Shangjing. By the time of Shizong, the capital was moved to Yan. Taizong, whose personal name was Sheng, was the second son of Yangge. He changed the reign era to Tianhui. He welcomed and escorted the auspicious sandalwood image to Yanjing, instituted a great Water-and-Land Assembly for seven days and nights, and enshrined it at Minzhong Temple for offerings. Xizong, whose personal name was Dan, was the legitimate grandson of Taizu. He changed the reign era to Tianjuan. He decreed that Grand Master Haihui should build Dachuqing Temple beside the palace at Shangjing, and ordained a million monks and nuns universally, granting a great amnesty to all under heaven. He also decreed that the two Chan Masters Haihui and Qinghui should reside at Chuqing Temple, and welcomed the sandalwood image to the Jiqing Pavilion of this temple for offerings. When Haihui passed away, the Emperor took his relics, erected stūpas in five locations, and bestowed the posthumous title 'Great Chan Master of Buddha-Awakening Who Aids the State'. He further conferred upon Qinghui the title 'Grand Master of Buddha-Wisdom Who Protects the State' along with a gold-brocade robe. Shizong, whose personal name was Yong, was a grandson of Taizu. He changed the reign era to Dading, moved the capital to Yan, and issued an edict to Daqingshou Temple, commanding Chan Master Xuanming Yi to open the mountain monastery. The Crown Prince descended to burn incense, and granted twenty thousand cash and twenty qing of fertile fields. He also decreed that Chan Master Yi should establish Qing'an Temple in Dongjing, where five hundred monks were ordained and a pañcapariṣad assembly was held. In the twentieth year, an edict ordered the construction of Yangshan Xiyin Chan Temple in the Western Hills of Yanjing, again decreeing that Chan Master Yi open the mountain monastery, conduct an assembly, and ordain monks.
