大宋真宗上元幸寺觀。百拜已上○徽宗迎佛牙入內敬禮製讚○孝宗幸上竺大士殿。問訥法師合拜不合拜。師曰。不拜則各自稱尊。拜則遞相恭敬。上忻然致拜。

Under the great Song, during the Lantern Festival Zhenzong visited Buddhist monasteries and Daoist abbeys, making over a hundred bows. Huizong welcomed the Buddha's tooth into the palace, reverently paid homage to it, and composed a eulogy. Xiaozong visited the Great Being's Hall at Upper Tianzhu and asked Dharma Master Ne: 'Is it proper to bow, or not proper to bow?' The master said: 'If you do not bow, then each claims superiority; if you bow, then you show mutual respect.' The Emperor joyfully bowed.
