周厲王。佛滅後百年。中天竺阿育王。取釋迦舍利作八萬四千寶塔。勅鬼神於閻浮提城邑。滿一億家為立一塔。
Under King Li of the Zhou, one hundred years after the Buddha's parinirvāṇa, King Aśoka of Central India took Śākyamuni's relics and made eighty-four thousand precious pagodas, commanding spirits and deities to erect one pagoda for every hundred million households in the cities and towns of Jambudvīpa.
