宋孝武。沙門僧瑜。常持法華。是年入柴龕焚身。所居生雙桐樹○沙門惠益誦法華焚身。帝駕往勸止。不從。詔焚處建藥王寺。

Under Emperor Xiaowu of the Liu Song: The śramaṇa Sengyu constantly upheld the Lotus Sūtra; in this year he entered a firewood shrine and immolated his body, and a pair of paulownia trees grew at his dwelling. ○ The śramaṇa Huiyi recited the Lotus Sūtra and immolated his body; the Emperor went in his carriage to dissuade him, but he would not comply. By imperial decree, Yaowang (Bhaiṣajyarāja) Temple was built at the site of the burning.
