靈帝建寧元年。宦官殺太傅陳蕃大將軍竇武。捕宗親賓客悉誅之。李膺詣獄。考死黨人。死者百餘人。天下儒學有行死徙廢禁。六七百人。

In the first year of the Jianning era of Emperor Ling, the eunuchs murdered Grand Tutor Chen Fan and General-in-Chief Dou Wu, and arrested and executed all their kinsmen and retainers. Li Ying went to prison, where the partisans were interrogated and tortured to death, with over one hundred dead. Throughout the realm, six to seven hundred men of Confucian learning and conduct were either executed, exiled, demoted, or barred from office.
