唐高宗。詔沙門義褒等。入宮談論。道士李榮理屈語塞。令黃門引榮退席○玄宗。道士吳筠造論毀釋氏。浙西觀察使陳少遊請神邕法師。面決邪正。筠竟敗北○代宗。沙門崇惠與道士角法告勝。賜紫衣。

Emperor Gaozong of the Tang decreed that the monk Yibao and others enter the palace to hold discussions; the Daoist Li Rong was at a loss for reason and struck dumb, so the palace attendants were ordered to escort Rong away from the seat. Under Emperor Xuanzong, the Daoist Wu Yun composed a treatise defaming Buddhism; Surveillance Commissioner of Zhexi Chen Shaoyou invited Dharma Master Shenyong to resolve the true and the false in person, and Yun ultimately suffered defeat. Under Emperor Daizong, the monk Chonghui contested powers with Daoists and emerged victorious, receiving a purple robe.
