Jing'an says: Great in the Way and revered in virtue, lofty in wisdom and abundant in eloquence, he acted as a great Dharma leader and was revered by the world. Yet regarding the conditions of emerging into the world, retirement, eating, and drinking, he still did not attain complete ease. He resided at Upper Tianzhu for nearly twenty years, but dwelt at Lingshan for barely a month. Thus, regarding the doctrine of forming karmic affinities, even great worthies cannot entirely escape it.
