2.20

The Bodhisattva first attained sambodhi at the bodhimaṇḍa. (Avataṃsaka Sūtra.) The Bodhisattva said: 'At thirty I attained the Way, styled Śākyamuni; at the bodhimaṇḍa of extinction, I sat upon the Diamond Flower King Throne and preached the Dharma.' (Brahmajāla Sūtra. Both the Baozang jing and the Wuxiang sanmei jing say he attained the Way at thirty.) Having already attained the Way, Brahmā exhorted and requested: 'We only pray that the Tathāgata will widely open the amṛta for sentient beings and preach the unsurpassed Dharma.' (Nirvāṇa Sūtra. Note: The aspect of attaining the Way as seen by great capacities.)
