At the end of the Tang, doctrinal texts were scattered and lost overseas. In the third year of the Xianping reign period of the present dynasty, Jakuchō of the state of Japan brought this copy to Siming. Ciyun obtained it and wrote a preface for it, stating: 'The first fascicle opens the understanding of śamatha-vipaśyanā; the second fascicle demonstrates the practice of śamatha-vipaśyanā.'
