Lady Feng was the daughter of Junior Preceptor Xun and the wife of Xuanwei Commissioner Chen Sigong. Sickly in her youth, she received instruction from Chan Master Cishou Shen and kept the vegetarian fasts. She recited the Buddha's name for over ten years, becoming increasingly diligent. She said to her clan, 'Having lost mindfulness in the pure realm, I came here. Now that my affinities with Cīna are exhausted, I shall soon return to the West.' One evening she said to her attendant, 'My spirit has roamed the Pure Land and attained the opportunity to pay homage to the Three Sages.' When her husband heard these words, he joined her in reciting the Buddha's name. Lying peacefully on her right side, she passed away. For three days, a wonderful fragrance was richly aromatic.
