Lady Sun of Siming, living as a widow, maintained vegetarianism and the precepts. For thirty years she bowed, chanted, and recited the Buddha's name without slackening. She made clothing, bedding, shoes, and socks with her own hands, giving them to monks beyond count. One day she had a slight illness, and saw an extraordinary person standing before her bed, saying, 'You should be diligent and zealous.' She also dreamt of eight monks circumambulating the repentance hall, while she, wearing an unadorned robe (mānyavastra), followed the monks in practicing the Way. She then bathed, changed into clean clothes, and invited monks to conduct repentance rites. Sitting upright before the assembly, she chanted the sūtra until reaching 'one mind undisturbed.' Forming a mudrā with her left hand, she abruptly passed away. Near and far, all heard music playing in the sky.
