Elderly Lady Li, wife of Elder Hu of Shangyu, chanted the Amitābha Sūtra in a loud voice day and night for over ten years after her husband passed away. One morning, a monk shaded by a scarlet canopy told her, saying, 'You will depart on the fifteenth day of this month at the midnight hour.' She asked, 'Master, who are you?' He answered, 'I am the one you recite.' The old woman then gathered her relatives to take her leave. When the time arrived, there were indeed extraordinary fragrance and radiant light; sitting upright, she passed away. After seven days she was cremated: her teeth were like snowy jade, her tongue like a red lotus, and her pupils like grapes, all solid and indestructible. The relics were beyond count. The next day, where she was cremated, a flower grew resembling a white poppy.
