Ninth Assembly: Preached in the Jeta Grove, one chapter (that is, Anāthapiṇḍada's park): 1. Entering the Dharma Realm (At that time the Bhagavat entered the Lion's Sprint Samādhi. Śāriputra and the other great śrāvakas in the Jeta Grove were entirely unable to see the Tathāgata's supernormal powers, nor could they see the great assembly of bodhisattvas. This was because their roots of goodness were different: originally they had not cultivated the roots of goodness to see the Buddha, nor had they praised the supernormal transformations of the buddhas; thus they could not see, hear, or be mindful of them, because they sought deliverance relying on the vehicle of hearing [teachings]. / Mañjuśrī took leave of the Buddha and traveled south among humanity. At that time Śāriputra, along with six thousand bhikṣus, went to Mañjuśrī's dwelling. Mañjuśrī exhorted them with ten matters, causing them to practice the Bodhisattva Path; thereupon they attained the Samādhi of the Unobstructed Eye, saw all the realms of the buddhas, and beheld all the buddhas. Having exhorted them, Mañjuśrī traveled south to the east of the City of Blessings, where he expounded the Dharma for the youth Sudhana, instructing him to seek bodhi and draw near to good spiritual friends. From there he traveled south through one hundred and ten cities, visiting fifty-three good spiritual friends, until he entered Samantabhadra's bodhimaṇḍa, attained doors of samādhi numerous as the dust motes of all buddha-fields, and universally beheld Samantabhadra throughout the realms of the ten directions. / These are all drawn based on Jīngxī's Avataṃsaka Framework).
