Anniversary Vegetarian Feasts for the Buddha and Patriarchs: The Tathāgata entered nirvāṇa on the fifteenth day of the second month in the fifty-third year of King Mu of Zhou (ren-shen). In every monastery, offerings must be made and rituals performed, which is called the Buddha's death anniversary. (Chan Master Jian of Beijian composed the text for the memorial feast; Dharma Master Jingjue composed the ritual praises.) Chan Master Nanyue's death anniversary is on the twenty-second day of the sixth month of the ninth year of Dajian in the Chen dynasty. (Zhipan composed the memorial feast text for Nanhu.)
