After King Ajātaśatru murdered his father, malignant sores broke out all over his body. Six ministers of wrong view deluded him by saying that the six heterodox masters could cure the king's disease. Jīvaka said, 'Only the Buddha can cure it.' When the king heard that the Buddha was about to enter nirvāṇa, he fainted and collapsed to the ground. The Bhagavat, with great compassion, entered the Moon-Loving Samādhi and emitted a cooling light that went forth to shine upon the king's body, whereupon his sores immediately healed. The king, along with his consort and five hundred and eighty thousand people of the kingdom, went to the city of Kuśīnagara. The Buddha preached the Dharma for them, and all his heavy transgressions were instantly lightened and diminished. The king, his consort, and the palace women all generated the bodhimind together, circled the Buddha three times, took their leave, and returned to the palace.
