Fourth, humans: They reside on the four great continents, the eight intermediate continents, and so forth, as well as on various small continents. Regarding their lifespan: as for humans in Jambudvīpa, at the beginning of the kalpa of formation their lifespan was immeasurable; thereafter it gradually decreased, being sixty years at present; thereafter it will gradually decrease down to ten years; thereafter it will gradually increase again, having no fixed measure. Humans of Uttarakuru have a fixed lifespan of one thousand years; humans of Pūrvavideha have a lifespan of five hundred years; humans of Aparagodānīya have a lifespan of two hundred and fifty years. Except in Uttarakuru, the others have untimely deaths. Regarding their enjoyment of goods: in Uttarakuru they eat naturally grown rice, and clothes and necklaces emerge from wish-fulfilling trees; those on the other three continents eat grains, meat, and the like, enjoying material goods and treasures. Regarding their bodily size: the bodily size of humans of Jambudvīpa is [four cubits; the bodily size of humans of Pūrvavideha is eight cubits; the bodily size of humans of Aparagodānīya is six]teen cubits; the bodily size of humans of Uttarakuru is thirty-two cubits. The facial forms of humans also resemble the shapes of their continents. The humans on small continents are also like those on the great continents, their bodies being halved in each case. Therefore it is thus explained.
