(7) In this year, an imperial decree summoned Chan Master Daoqin of Mount Jingshan to the palace. The Emperor personally paid homage to him. One day, the master was in the inner court, and seeing the Emperor, he stood up. The Emperor said, "Why did the master stand up?" Qin said, "How can the dānapati observe this poor monk within the four postures?" The Emperor was delighted and said to National Preceptor Zhong, "We wish to bestow a name upon Master Qin." Zhong joyfully received the decree, and the Emperor thereupon bestowed the title "Chan Master Guoyi" (National Master Number One). Later, he took his leave and returned to his mountain. Great Master Mazu sent his disciple Zhizang to ask, "Throughout the twelve periods of the day, what do you take as your realm of cognition?" The master said, "Wait until you go back, and there will be news." Zang said, "I am going back right now." The master said, "To deliver a message, you must ask Caoxi." Another monk asked, "What is the meaning of the ancestral master's coming from the West?" The master said, "Your question is improper." The monk said, "How can it be proper?" The master said, "Wait until after my passing, and then I will explain it to you." In the eighth year of the Zhenyuan era, he showed his passing. He was posthumously granted the title Chan Master Dajue.
