to retranslate the old version, for which the Emperor personally wrote a preface. He bestowed upon Amoghavajra the office of Specially Advanced Director of Honglu. In this year, Dharma Master Liangbi was decreed to compose a commentary on the new Renwang jing in the Taoyuan Garden of the Daming Palace. Liangbi presented it with a memorial, which said in brief: "Washing the mind and cleansing thoughts, striking into the stillness to seek the voice. The illumination originates from the heavenly palace; the protection relies on the Buddha's power. Concisely relying on the sūtras and treatises, it expounds the true school, just as gathering all the jade on Mount Jing or drawing all rivers into the vast sea. Fire arises from wood, blazing brightly alongside the two luminaries; consciousness turns into Suchness, its substance of a single aspect illuminating equally. That which accomplishes the Way is the Dharma; that which records the Dharma is the sūtra. Universally delivering all beings, bringing them to join Great Penetration; fully perfecting the bodhicitta, conforming to Your Majesty's will." The Emperor inspected it, praised it, and changed the era to the first year of Dali.
