(Third [year], bingwu) Chan Master Daoyi built the Jingesi in this year. An edict ordered ten Military Commissioners to assist him using the two taxes. In the seventh month, the Ullambana basin assembly was first performed in the inner palace. Seven sage seats were arranged for Gaozu, Taizong, and their successors. Imperial carriages were prepared and colossal banners erected, each inscribed above with an imperial title. They were welcomed from the Imperial Ancestral Temple into the inner chapel; cymbals, pipes, and drums danced while streamers and standards lit up the sky. On that day, guards and civil and military officials lined up at the Guangshun Gate to welcome, pay homage, and escort them. From then on, it became an annual practice. On the guiwei day, reishi mushrooms grew in two halls of the Imperial Ancestral Temple; the Emperor composed a poem in praise of it, and all the officials composed matching poems.
