In the Jin state, in the fourth year of Mingchang, an imperial edict invited Elder Wansong to ascend the high seat in the imperial palace. The Emperor personally welcomed him with ceremonial deference, heard Dharma he had never heard before, and being deeply moved and awakened, personally offered brocades and fine silks. The saṃghāṭī robe was presented to the seat as an offering. The empress, consorts, and noble relatives bowed in rows and knelt with hands folded, each offering cherished possessions as alms. A universal salvation assembly was established, and the distribution of gifts was extraordinary. For successive days, auspicious clouds stretched across the horizon. From then on, the years were bountiful and songs of praise filled the roads. Every year vegetarian feasts were held, often evoking auspicious omens. (Wansong was of the Dongxia [Caodong] lineage.) When Emperor Zhangzong traveled to Mount Yang in Yan, his imperial inscription included the lines: 'A Tuṣita realm within the golden realm; / A Brahma King's palace amid the green lotuses.' (In the tenth month, Shizong's sixth son, Yundao, was executed.)
