When the Emperor and the Imperial Preceptor were seated, the two monks Yi and Kang attended at their side. The Emperor said: 'Why not play with the samādhi [of verses]?' Because he was a year younger, Kang said: 'Let the order be from smallest to largest.' Yi thereupon said: 'The falcon's body is smallest, / The swan's body is largest; / The falcon flies piercing the sky, / The swan is filled with fear.' Kang said: 'The piglet's body is smallest, / The elephant king's body is largest; / When the elephant sees the piglet come to bully him, / He hurls it into the great trichiliocosm.' The Imperial Preceptor said: 'I take the great trichiliocosm / And transform it into a single cauldron and stove; / Boiling the four things of yours, / Both large and small are accommodated.' The Emperor was greatly pleased.
