Third, the letter from Emperor Chengwu of the Later Yan, Murong Chui, said: 'The Emperor respectfully inquires after Upādhyāya Lang of Mount Tai. You clarify the spirit and spiritual lineage, and your compassionate shade covers a hundred states. Among all that breathe, who does not receive your moisture? I have inherited the lineage and succession, facing the affairs of the realm. Formerly, when Shu was disrespectful, Emperor Wu of Wei harbored indignation; now, with two rebels unsubdued, how can I find peace? Furthermore, the grand army is successfully mobilized to sweep away rebellion wildly. The perfected person penetrates the spiritual realm and transforms according to expedient guidance. I pray that weapons will not be stained with blood and the four seas will unite in submission. Yielding my heart in refuge, how could my long-held reverence ever cease? Now I dispatch an envoy to present one hundred bolts of official silk, three kāṣāyas, and fifty jin of cotton floss. May you kindly chant prayers on my behalf.'
