（二十一）　孝武詔沙門道猷。為新安寺鎮寺法主。初文帝間惠觀。頓悟之理孰精。觀以猷對。有旨召入大內。盛集名流。猷敷宣有緒法義粲然。聞者開悟。有攻難者猷必挫以釋之。帝拊髀稱善。至是為天下法主。甚允時望。

(21) Emperor Xiaowu decreed the monk Daoyou to be the protector dharma master of Xin'an Temple. Formerly, Emperor Wen had asked Huiguan who was most refined in the doctrine of sudden enlightenment, and Huiguan replied with You. An imperial decree summoned him into the imperial palace, where famous figures assembled in crowds. You expounded in an orderly manner, the meanings of the Dharma brilliant, and listeners were awakened. If anyone posed difficult objections, You invariably refuted them and resolved the questions. The emperor slapped his thigh in praise. By this time, he had become the dharma master of the entire realm, fully living up to contemporary expectations.
