(22. The bingshen year [456 CE]) Dharma Master Baoliang resided at Zhongxing Temple. Yuan Can of the Secretariat saw him and marveled at him, sending a letter to his master Daoming, which said in brief: "Recently I met Master Liang; he is no ordinary man. Daily I hear what I had never heard before, oblivious to the year drawing to a close. Now, pearls are born in Hepu, and the people of Wei took them to illuminate a carriage; jade was in Handan, and the people of Qin requested it to glorify their state. The treasures of the world must not be kept for oneself alone; they should be shared with all." From then on, Liang's renown grew all the greater. In his later years he resided at Lingwei Temple, his lecture assemblies foremost in the capital, with more than three thousand disciples. Liang's noble energy pressed forcefully upon others, his eloquence incisive and free. If disputants were obscured regarding the principles, Liang resolved them and all became crystal clear.
