Book of Songs: The Five Odes of Shang. "Na" is a sacrifice to Tang the Successful. "Liezu" is a sacrifice to Zhongzong. "Xuanniao" is a sacrifice to Gaozong. "Changfa" is the Grand Di Sacrifice. "Yinwu" is a sacrifice to Gaozong. Yan Can's Commentary on the Book of Songs states: "The Viscount of Wei was a descendant of Shang; therefore the rites and music of Shang were all preserved in Song. Reaching down seven generations to Duke Dai, in the interim the rites and music fell into ruin and neglect, which was not Duke Dai's fault either. Upward from Duke Dai and downward from the Viscount of Wei, that from which it originated was gradual. There was one Zheng Kaofu, who obtained the twelve odes of Shang from the Grand Music Master of Zhou. Although the rites and music of Song had fallen into ruin and neglect, Zheng Kaofu nevertheless obtained the odes of Shang from the Grand Music Master of Zhou; thus, although the rites and music of Shang were lost in Song, they were recovered in Zhou. Zhou made use of the music of the six dynasties, and the musical texts were constantly preserved; therefore the odes of Shang could be had. However, of the twelve odes of Shang, there are now only five pieces; presumably when the Songs were edited, seven had already been lost" (Shiji).
