In the second year of Yongxing, the Emperor cast golden statues of the Buddha (futou) and Laozi, covering them with canopies made of a hundred gems. He personally made offerings to them within the palace. People of the world making Buddhist statues out of gold and silver began from this (Sanbao ji).
