魏　平原王叡。甄夫人生。文帝子也。郭后無子。帝使后養之。甄夫人被誅未建為嗣。黃初七年帝與平原王叡獵。見子母鹿。帝親射殺其母。命叡射其子。叡泣曰。陛下已殺其母。臣不忍復殺其子。帝即放弓矢為之惻然。夏五月帝疾篤。乃立叡為太子。丙辰召曹真陳群司馬懿。並受遺詔輔政。丁巳帝殂。壽四十六歲。

Wei: Rui, the Prince of Pingyuan, was born to Lady Zhen and was the son of Emperor Wen. Empress Guo had no sons, so the Emperor ordered her to raise him. Lady Zhen had been executed, and Rui had not yet been established as the heir apparent. In the seventh year of Huangchu, the Emperor went hunting with Rui, the Prince of Pingyuan, and saw a mother deer with her fawn. The Emperor personally shot and killed the mother, and ordered Rui to shoot the fawn. Rui wept and said, "Your Majesty has already killed its mother; your subject cannot bear to kill its child as well." The Emperor immediately put down his bow and arrows, deeply moved by this. In the fifth month, during the summer, the Emperor fell gravely ill. He then established Rui as crown prince. On the bingchen day, he summoned Cao Zhen, Chen Qun, and Sima Yi, who all received his testamentary edict to assist in the governance. On the dingsi day, the Emperor passed away at the age of forty-six.
