The Avalokiteśvara Sūtra of King Gao: Sun Jingde, a commoner of Dingzhou under the Eastern Wei, served Avalokiteśvara Bodhisattva with extreme devotion. Later, he was falsely implicated by bandits and wrongfully confessed to the crime. At night, he dreamed of a monk who taught him to recite the Avalokiteśvara Sūtra for Saving from Suffering. Jingde recited it. When the officials carried out the execution, the blade struck three times and broke three times. The supervising officer reported the circumstances in full to the Chancellor Gao Huan. Huan thoroughly examined the reasons and submitted a memorial requesting his death penalty be spared. When Sun returned home, the statue of Avalokiteśvara he venerated bore three blade marks on its neck. Because of this, it is called the Sūtra of King Gao (from the Biographies of Evidential Miracles).
