西魏沙門道臻。博通經義。文帝尊之為師傅。長安立大中興寺居臻。為魏國大統。大立科條。由是佛教再興。帝復起大乘．陟岵二寺。臻入滅。帝哀之廢朝。其喪事所資並出天府（北史）。

Under the Western Wei, the śramaṇa Daozhen was thoroughly versed in the meaning of the scriptures. Emperor Wen honored him as his teacher. He founded the Da Zhongxing Monastery in Chang'an for Zhen to reside in, appointed him Grand Overseer (Datong) of the Wei state, and established regulations on a grand scale. From this, Buddhism flourished once more. The Emperor also erected the Dacheng and Zhihu monasteries. When Zhen entered extinction, the Emperor mourned him and suspended court audiences; the expenses for his funeral were all provided from the imperial treasury (from the History of the Northern Dynasties).
