Being at odds with Emperor Yuan, he sought vassal status with Western Wei. At this point, the state was called Liang, and the reign era was called Dading. He posthumously honored his father, the crown prince, as Emperor Zhaoming, with the temple name Gaozong. Cha reigned for seven years; when submitting memorials to Wei, he referred to himself as a subject and observed the calendar and first day of the month of Wei.
