The Indian Venerable Buddhayaśas (translated here as "Awakened Glory") arrived in Guzang (now in the territory of Suzhou Circuit, Yongzhou). In the ninth year of Hongshi of Later Qin, envoys were dispatched to invite him to Chang'an. The Qin ruler welcomed him in the suburbs and built a separate cloister to accommodate him, providing offerings fit for a king. The Venerable accepted none of them; when the time came, he took only a single meal through alms-round (begging for food himself to eat). He was skilled in the Vibhāṣā-śāstra and had a red beard; people at the time called him the "Red-bearded Vibhāṣā." Later he came to Jin and traveled to Mount Kuang, where he was deeply respected by Master Huiyuan. The jiayin year was the tenth year of Yixi of Emperor An of Jin. The Venerable personally carried iron to the summit of Zixiao Peak to cast a stupa, enshrining the Tathāgata's true-body relics within it. At this time, the Venerable Buddhabhadra also built a stupa with five grains of the Buddha's relics at the northern Shangfang of Donglin Monastery on Mount Lu. Up to this day, both still survive (from the Biographies of Eminent Monks and the Records of Mount Lu).
