試經度僧　八月詔天下試童行經義。挑通無滯者度之為僧。試經度僧從此而始（唐舊史）。

Testing on scriptures to ordain monks. In the eighth month, an edict was issued to the realm to examine postulants on the meaning of the scriptures; those who were thoroughly versed without obstruction were ordained as monks. Testing on scriptures to ordain monks began from this (Old Book of Tang).
