氏族志　貞觀十二年正月。吏部尚書高士廉黃門侍郎韋挺禮部侍郎令（盧丁反）狐德棻中書侍郎岑文本撰氏族志成。以黃門侍郎崔民幹為第一。帝不允。乃更命刊定。專以今朝品秩為高下。於是以皇族為首。外戚次之。降崔民幹第三凡二百九十三姓。千六百五十一家。頒於天下（唐書）。

The Compendium of Clans (Shizu zhi). In the first month of the twelfth year of Zhenguan, Minister of Personnel Gao Shilian, Deputy Director of the Chancellery Wei Ting, Vice Minister of Rites Linghu Defen, and Deputy Director of the Secretariat Cen Wenben completed the compilation of the Shizu zhi. They ranked Deputy Director of the Chancellery Cui Min'gan first. The Emperor did not approve, and therefore ordered further revisions, strictly using the official ranks and grades of the present dynasty to determine precedence. Thereupon, the imperial clan was placed first, the imperial in-laws second, and Cui Min'gan was demoted to third. In all, two hundred and ninety-three surnames and one thousand six hundred and fifty-one families were included, and it was promulgated throughout the realm (Tang shu).
