Chan Master of Luohan Cloister in Zhangzhou, named Guichen, was born into the Li clan of Changshan. He was tonsured under Great Master Wuxiang of Wansui Temple in his home prefecture. Receiving the precepts, he attained the Dharma under Chan Master Xuansha Bei. The Master held the great Dharma in secret regard and deeply concealed his brilliance. Wang, the prefect of Zhangzhou, invited him to reside at Dizang on Stone Mountain west of the city for more than ten years. He then moved to Luohan Cloister. Amid broken walls and ruined mats, the Master dwelled with complete equanimity. He guided Fayan Yi. Down to this third year of Tiancheng, he entered quiescence at the age of sixty-two. He was cremated and his relics were enshrined in a stupa in the western corner of the cloister. By imperial order, he was posthumously titled Chan Master Zhenying (*Transmission of the Lamp*).
