In the eleventh month, Tang dispatched envoys in various directions to inspect the populace, determining their taxes based on the fertility or barrenness of the land as of old; the people all praised this as fair and equitable. In Han, in the twelfth month, on the wuxu day, the Han ruler was confined to bed with an illness. A Sanskrit monk told him, "The name Gong is unpropitious." The Han ruler personally invented the character Yan (龑) for his name, taking its meaning from "flying dragon in heaven," pronounced like *yan*. The ruler of Min constructed a seven-tiered stone pagoda on the west hill south of the city; before work was half done, hair resembling a canopy appeared for three nights, and once it was completed, radiance reached the sky for another three nights. The king was delighted and comforted, and thereupon gave it the plaque "Jingguang" (Pure Radiance), and beneath it he also constructed temple buildings (*Changle ji*).
