正月。周下詔。帝親征淮南（唐也）。帝召華山隱士真源陳摶。問以飛昇黃白之術。摶對曰。陛下為天子。當以治天下為務。安用此為。乃辭還山。

In the first month, the Zhou issued an edict that the Emperor would personally lead an expedition against Huainan (that is, Tang). The Emperor summoned the hermit Chen Tuan of Huashan, a native of Zhenyuan, and inquired about the arts of levitation and alchemy. Tuan replied, 'Your Majesty is the Son of Heaven and should take governing the realm as your endeavor. What use have you for such things?' He then took his leave and returned to the mountains.
