癸未弘道元年。十二月。帝有疾。丁巳崩。甲子中宗即位。尊天后為皇太后。政事咸取決焉　中宗立而廢之。太后稱制。

Guiwei, the first year of Hongdao. In the twelfth month, the Emperor fell ill; on the dingci day, he died. On the jiazi day, Zhongzong ascended the throne and honoured the Heavenly Empress as Empress Dowager; all government affairs were decided by her. Zhongzong was enthroned and then deposed; the Empress Dowager administered the government from behind the throne.
