春二月。司馬光拜左相。三月程頤為崇政殿說書。一日言聞陛下宮中盥而避蟻有是乎。帝曰然深恐傷之耳。頤曰。推此心以及四海。帝王之要道也（聖政錄）。夏四月。呂公著拜右相。文彥博太師平章軍國重事（帝紀）。秋九月。溫國文政公司馬光薨于相位（帝紀）。

In spring, the second month, Sima Guang was appointed Senior Grand Councilor. In the third month, Cheng Yi became Expositor in the Chongzheng Hall. One day, he said, "I hear that when Your Majesty washes in the palace, you step aside to avoid ants. Is this so?" The Emperor said, "It is so; I am only deeply afraid of harming them." Cheng Yi said, "To extend this mind to all within the four seas—this is the essential way of emperors and kings" (Shengzheng lu). In summer, the fourth month, Lü Gongzhu was appointed Junior Grand Councilor. Wen Yanbo was made Grand Preceptor and Manager of Affairs of the Bureau of Military Affairs (Diji). In autumn, the ninth month, Duke of Wenguo, Wen-zheng, Sima Guang, passed away while holding the office of grand councilor (Diji).
