Under the Song, in winter, on the seventh day of the eleventh month, the śramaṇa named Sijing of the Miaoxing Cloister outside the northern gate of Hangzhou entered into quiescence. Zhang Jiucheng, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Rites, composed his pagoda inscription. Jing's clan, the Yu family of Qiantang, built the Miaoxing Cloister as a hospitality hall and provided offerings for three million monks. He painted Amitābha Buddha with marvelous perfection. Vice Minister Yang Jie praised him as 'Amitābha Yu,' and the people called him by that name. To the north of West Lake, Jing carved a giant Buddha head out of stone (Pagoda Inscription and Temple Record).
