In the seventh month of the bingshen year, the era was changed to the first year of Zhide. An Lushan proclaimed himself Emperor of the Great Yan, established the reign era Shengwu, and his troops entered Chang'an. In the following year, An Lushan was stabbed in the belly and killed by his eunuch Li Zhuer; his son An Qingxu was installed. In the dingyou year, the second year of Zhide, in the ninth month the Western Capital was recovered, and in the tenth month the Eastern Capital was recovered. On the dingmao day the Emperor entered the Western Capital. In the twelfth month, the Retired Emperor returned to Xianyang and resided in the Xingqing Palace. Suzong installed his son, Prince Chu of Guangping, as Prince of Chu, and conferred enfeoffments upon meritorious ministers, appointing Guo Ziyi as Minister of Works (Situ) and Li Guangbi as Minister of Works (Sikong). He made Shu Commandery the Southern Capital, Fengxiang the Western Capital, and the Western Capital the Central Capital (Tangshu).
