Chan Master [Yuan'an] of Mount Luopu in Li Prefecture was named Yuan'an. He was a man of Linyou in Fengxiang. In his youth he went forth from the household; having fully received the precepts, he upheld the Vinaya and was versed in the sutras and treatises. In this year he studied under Chan Master Linji Xuan and served as his attendant. Later he went to Mount Jiashan and built a hut. In the eighth month of the first year of Guanghua under Zhaozong, he admonished his disciples, saying: 'According to the Dharma of leaving the household, superfluous possessions should not be kept, not to mention anything else. You must be thoroughly mindful. Time passes swiftly; the Great Way is profound and abstruse. If you procrastinate and compromise, how will you realize it?' On the first day of the twelfth month, he sat peacefully and passed into quiescence. He was the dharma heir of Chan Master Jiashan Hui (Transmission of the Lamp).
