In autumn, on the twenty-fifth day of the eighth month, the eminent monk Wuen of Xiushui sat upright facing west and passed away. Formerly in the Tiantai school, originally after the passing of Venerable Jingxi in the third year of the Jianzhong era of Emperor Dezong of the Tang, it was transmitted through five generations to Qingsong. Song had two disciples: one was Xiji, the other was Zhiyin. Xiji transmitted the orthodox lineage of doctrine and contemplation to Yitong; Tong transmitted it to Zhili (Venerable Siming) and Zunshi (Confession Master of Lower Zhu), continuously bestowing and receiving it. Zhiyin transmitted it to Wuen; En's name was prominent in the monastic history. En transmitted it to Hongmin and Yuanqing; Qing transmitted it to Zhiyuan (Dharma Master Gushan) and Qingzhao; Zhao transmitted it to Jici and Xianrun. Each followed their own explanations regarding object, contemplation, understanding, and practice. Siming Zhili refuted and criticized them. The lineage of Mount Heng rejected them as the Off-Mountain School (Tiantai jiaobu).
