戊辰至元五年　宋咸淳四年　元阿朮劉整圍宋襄陽。知府呂文煥告急　謝枋得論云。官為宰相。可以生殺廢置人。官為臺諫。可以彈駁榮辱人。官為國子監。可以考校去取人。此三等謂之繫籍聖賢也（史）。

Fifth year of Zhiyuan, wuchen; fourth year of Xianchun of Song: Aju and Liu Zheng of Yuan besieged Xiangyang of Song. Prefect Lü Wenhuan sent urgent appeals. Xie Fangde remarked: 'In the office of Chancellor, one may execute, spare, dismiss, or appoint people. In the office of Censorate and Remonstrance, one may impeach, dispute, bring glory to, or disgrace people. In the office of the National Directorate of Education, one may examine, evaluate, reject, or select people. These three ranks are known as registering the sages and worthies' (History).
