陳友諒。用鏤金床。斯進太祖。曰陳氏窮奢極靡。焉得不亡。侍臣曰。未富而驕未貴而侈。所以取敗。太祖曰。既富豈可驕。既貴豈可侈乎。

Chen Youliang had used a bed of carved gold. When it was presented to Taizu, he said: "The Chen clan took luxury and waste to the extreme; how could they not perish?" An attendant minister said: "Being arrogant before being wealthy, and being extravagant before being noble—this is why they brought about defeat." Taizu said: "Even when one is wealthy, how can one be arrogant? Even when one is noble, how can one be extravagant?"
