雪巖禪師　諱法欽。五歲出家。十六剃度。十八行脚。十九靈隱。掛塔移單過淨慈。一日在天目。殿上行。擡眼見一株古柏。觸目省發。從此不疑生不疑死。不疑佛不疑祖。後住道林南明仙居湖州光孝道場仰山北磵諸剎。為無準之嗣。乃高峯之師有語錄二卷。行世。

Chan Master Xueyan: His taboo name was Faqin. At five he left home, at sixteen he was tonsured, at eighteen he traveled on pilgrimage, and at nineteen he reached Lingyin. He hung his bowl and moved his quarters to Jingci. One day at Tianmu, walking in the hall, he raised his eyes and saw an ancient cypress; struck by the sight, he had an awakening. From then on he doubted neither birth nor death, neither the buddhas nor the patriarchs. Later he resided at various monasteries including Daolin, Nanming, Xianju, Guangxiao Daochang in Huzhou, Yangshan, and Beijian. He was the heir of Wuzhun and the master of Gaofeng. His discourse records in two fascicles circulate in the world.
