Ryukyu: Located in the southeast seas. Setting sail from Meihuasuo in Fujian, one can arrive in seven days with favorable winds and good ships. Their custom takes waxing and waning as the month's end and beginning, and uses plants and trees to mark winter and summer. The people all shave their beards and tattoo their hands, wearing feather caps and fur garments; they lack etiquette and are fond of plundering. At this point, they sent sons and younger brothers to study, and their barbarian customs slightly changed: they adopted the calendar, established official posts, wore robes and caps, presented memorials and petitions, and composed literary works, exhibiting the style of China.
