Yang Weizhen, who had the style name Tieya, wore a square cap when he had an audience with the Emperor. The Emperor asked: "What is the name of this cap?" He replied: "The cap of the pacification of the four quarters." The Emperor was pleased. Peng Youxin arrived in the capital as a tributary. He encountered the Emperor traveling incognito, who composed an extempore poem on a red rainbow, saying: "Who took a single strand of blue and red thread / And tied it around heaven's waist along with the clouds and rain?" He ordered [Peng] to continue it. Youxin responded without hesitation: "The Jade Emperor went out last night in his imperial carriage; / Across the ten-thousand-li expanse of sky, he laid a jade bridge." The Emperor was greatly delighted, inquired about his native registry, and ordered him to wait at Sheng Bridge the next morning to enter the court together. Youxin did as he was told, but after waiting a long time [the Emperor] did not arrive, so he proceeded into court. The Emperor summoned Youxin before the hall and asked the reason. He reported everything truthfully, and was appointed Administration Commissioner of Beiping.
